Why Benicàssim Was Our Favorite Hidden Gem in Spain

When we planned our two-week train journey through Spain, Benicàssim wasn’t originally on our radar. But after visiting, we can honestly say: it ended up being one of our favorite stops.

If you're looking for beautiful beaches, incredible food, a laid-back vibe, and welcoming locals, Benicàssim is the perfect coastal escape.

Where We Stayed: Solea House

We stayed at Solea House, a beautiful boutique guesthouse right in the heart of Benicàssim. From the moment we arrived, the hosts made us feel so welcome — offering local tips, restaurant recommendations, and genuinely making us feel at home.

Our room was perfectly located within walking distance of the beach, the old town, and all the delicious cafes and restaurants. If you're looking for a cozy, stylish place to stay that feels personal and special, we can't recommend Solea House enough.

What We Loved About Benicàssim

The Food Scene

One of the biggest highlights of Benicàssim for us? The food. Every meal felt fresh, authentic, and full of flavor. Unlike more tourist-heavy towns, Benicàssim is full of family-run spots and vibrant local restaurants that really showcase the region’s best flavors.

Some of our favorite places to eat in Benicàssim:

  • La Suculenta – Delicious, beautifully plated Mediterranean dishes with a cozy yet upscale vibe.

  • Vin Up – A perfect casual wine bar where you can grab a glass of Spanish wine and nibble on small plates.

  • La Pescadería de Sergio – Incredible seafood. Fresh, flavorful, and one of the best meals we had during our time in Spain.

  • Madre Superior Coffee – A must for your morning coffee and pastries. Great vibe, amazing brews, and the perfect start to a slow morning.

Make a reservation for dinner at La Suculenta if you're visiting on a weekend—it’s popular for a reason!

Biking Along the Greenway

Another one of our favorite experiences was renting bikes and riding the Via Verde del Mar ("Greenway of the Sea"), a stunning coastal bike path.
The ride was easy and scenic, with sweeping views of cliffs, hidden coves, and lush greenery. It’s a peaceful, beautiful way to experience the area at your own pace.

Our tip:
Ride the trail in the morning or evening for cooler temperatures and softer light for photos.

Slowing Down and Soaking It In

What made Benicàssim so special wasn’t just the great food or beautiful coastline—it was the pace of life. It’s the kind of place where you can wander slowly through town, stumble into a café, linger over a long lunch, and actually feel yourself relax.

After the buzz of bigger cities like Madrid and Barcelona, Benicàssim was exactly the kind of reset we needed.

Why You Should Visit Benicàssim

If you're looking for a beautiful, easygoing coastal town with amazing food, friendly people, scenic bike rides, and a local vibe, Benicàssim is a perfect choice.
It’s an ideal stop to add a little breathing room into your Spain itinerary—and a place we already can’t wait to return to.
