Battambang Circus: One of Cambodia’s Most Inspiring Experiences
f you're visiting Cambodia, the Phare Ponleu Selpak Circus in Battambang is an experience you absolutely don't want to miss. Known for holding the world record for the longest circus performance—an unbelievable 24 hours—this circus is truly one for the record books. If you aren't going to Battambang, but are going to Siem Reap, you can also visit the phare circus!
What Makes the Battambang Circus Special?
Unlike a traditional circus, the Phare Circus is performed entirely by students from the local arts school. These performers are training for the world-famous Phare show in Siem Reap, and watching them is like seeing future stars in the making.
The circus is part of a larger mission:
Empowering Cambodian youth through art and education
Providing access to creative programs, performance skills, and safe community spaces
Supporting students with career paths in the arts
Almost everywhere we visited in Battambang had a strong community mission—and this circus is no exception.
Arrive Early — Here's Why
One of the coolest parts of the experience was arriving early and touring the grounds. You can explore:
Art galleries featuring work by current students
A shop selling student-made items like T-shirts, postcards, and handmade souvenirs
An on-site café with snacks and drinks
It feels like stepping into the creative heart of Battambang.
