The Incredible Bat Cave in Northern Cambodia You Can’t Miss

Looking for unique things to do in Cambodia? One of the most unforgettable experiences of our trip was watching millions of bats fly out of the Bat Cave near Battambang. Every evening at sunset, the sky fills with a moving stream of bats leaving the cave to hunt—it's one of the most stunning natural events in Cambodia.

Our tuk tuk guide, Mr. Lizy, ended our tour with this stop, and honestly, it blew us away. The sound, the movement, the sheer number of bats… it’s wild.

We worked with Mr. Lizy directly, but if he is not available, it looks like several tours include the bat caves.

Where Is the Bat Cave in Cambodia?

The famous bat exodus happens at Phnom Sampov near Battambang, in northern Cambodia. It’s easy to add to a Battambang day trip or include in your Cambodia itinerary if you’re traveling between Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.

Why You Should Add This to Your Cambodia Itinerary

  • It’s one of the best natural experiences in Cambodia

  • Perfect for wildlife lovers, photographers, and adventure travelers

  • Completely free to watch (just tip your guide!)

  • Happens every single night around sunset

Travel Tip

Arrive 20–30 minutes before sunset to grab a spot. If you have a guide, ask them to take you to the lesser-known viewpoints along the road—way less crowded.

Save This for Your Cambodia Trip

If you're planning a Cambodia trip, this is a bucket-list stop you’ll never forget.
